Metal Roofs - Renewable and Recyclable
One of the great things about metal roofing is its longevity. Metal roofing has been used for hundreds of years, having stood the test of time very well. The majority of our metal roofing carries warranties from 40-50 years, and in many cases will last longer than that.
This is why metal roofing is often referred to as lifetime roofing. When you don't have to replace your roof it saves energy and raw materials for other roofs.
Our metal roofing products are 100% recyclable. We start out with a steel core, and then coat it with a zinc or zinc-aluminum protective coating layer. After a long useful life, your roof can easily be recycled into new steel products.
Steel: Most Recycled Material in North America
According to the Steel Recycling Institute, about 88% of all steel products are recycled into new products - an amazing reclamation rate! All steel products manufactured contain at minimum 25% and as much as 95% recycled content.
By using steel roofing materials you are helping to preserve valuable resources. Many other roofing products, such as asphalt shingles, cannot be recycled; thus adding to the increasingly full landfills and wasting precious resources.

LEED® Certified
The U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED provides building owners and operators with the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance.
Steel roofing products from Best Buy Metals meet LEED® requirements, including two credits for recycled content as well as a credit for being reflective and energy efficient.

Benefits of a Renewable, Recyclable Metal Roof System
The benefits of a renewable, recyclable roof system include:
- Reduce the Use of Wasteful Roof Materials. When you use metal roofing, you are saying no to other roofing products that harm our environment by using up precious resources such as petroleum.
- Reduce Energy Usage. Heat absorbing roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles, require your air conditioner and heater to stay on longer. This wastes gas or electric and increases the demand for these important resources.
- Recycle Current Resources. Steel roofing is 100% recyclable. In the unlikely event you ever need to replace it, the steel can be completely melted down and turned into new products.
- Reverse the Heat Island Effect. Because metal roofing is reflective and absorbs less heat than other roof materials, it helps to reverse the temperature increases in large cities caused by heat absorbing asphalt roofing, asphalt roads, and driveways.
